Dangerous goods belonging to different classes cannot be stored
together.they have to be segregated from one another and the segregation
depends on the properties of substances in each class and the way they
react with substances of another class. List of segregation as per IMDG CODE
TYPES OF SEGREGATION.
1.AWAY FROM
:-May be carried in the same compartment or on deck provided a minimum
horizontal separation of 3m projected vertically is maintained.
2.SEPERATED FROM :- Can be carried in the same compartment if the intervening deck is resistant to fire and liquids, otherwise separate holds.On deck, horizontal separation of at least 6m.
3.SEPERATED BY A COMPLETE COMPARTMENT OR HOLD FROM:-
These must be either a vertical or longitudinal separation by a
complete compartment or hold and two bulkheads or deck resistant to fire
and liquids.
4.SEPERATED LONGITUDINALLY BY AN INTERVENING COMPLETE COMPARTMENT OR HOLD FROM:-A
vertically separation is not allowed. The packages must be horizontally
separated by a complete compartment. On deck a horizontal separation of
at least 24m is required and between "on deck" & "under deck "
package , 24m plus an intervening compartment.
