W et C ard   A compass point north because all magnets have two poles north pole, south pole.   The north pole of the one magnet attracted towards the south pole of another magnet     DRY CARD COMPASS   A light aluminum ring about 254mm in diameter is attached to a brass hub by silk cord which is threaded in and out through holes in the ring.   This tight silk cord is act like bicycle wheels.   There is no other connection or support between the ring and the hub.   Silk cord is used because it doesn’t shrink or stretch due to moisture or change in atmospheric temperature.     Card support: -     The bottom of the hub has small cap fi tt ed with a sapphire bearing surface.   This rests on a pivot tipped with iridium which is hard nonmagnetic metal....

NEED OF CARGOHOLD INSPECTION.


This is to ensure the quality of the cargo is not affected whilst in vessel’s custody and reach its destination in the same condition as when it was loaded.If cargo arrives at destination in damaged condition due to vessel’s fault,cargo owner will raise claims against the vessel or her owner.

  • Consignee or shipper can order an independent cargo inspection of hold prior to loading.

  2. Holds should be taint free.
  3. No visible loose rust which can cause contamination.
  • To check the hold is safe to hold the cargo as well as the wheathertightness of the ship.
  1. Holds are safe for stevedore’s work.
  2. Stevedore damage claim raising.
  • Prevent cargo damage.
  1. Caused by the operation of bilges .
  2. Lack of weather tight integrity.
  3. Leaks in ballast lines.
  • Fire safety.
  1. Identifying fire hazard will reduce the damage to the ship as well as to the personnel onboard.(casualties).
